Abingdon School, Abingdon
Monday 29th March - Saturday 3rd April 2004, at 7.30pm
Our Spring 2004 show, was the West End hit, ‘Chess’, a fabulous modern show guaranteed to enthral you. In a break from 'traditional' musicals, the music written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA introduces a rock element to the show with amazing electric guitar riffs and outrageous melodies, including the '80s chart hits ‘One Night In Bangkok’ and ‘I Know Him So Well’.
Set in the 1980s, the story is a mix of emotions revolving around the World Chess Championships, as in the wake of the cold war, America faces Russia in a game of wits and love. With everything from Queens in Bangkok to mountain side affairs, the show is a total escape. This production uses an abstract modern setting to complement the technical novelties being brought to the Amey Theatre.
Abingdon Operatic Society is proud of its variety of shows which we hope can attract a wide audience to musical theatre.
